WordPress

Install, update, secure and speed up WordPress with the managed tools built right into your HostFilya dashboard.

WordPress powers a huge slice of the web for good reason — it's flexible, friendly and there's a plugin for almost everything. On HostFilya we take care of the fiddly server bits so you can focus on your content. This guide walks you through getting a site live, keeping it fast and safe, and looking after it over time.

Installing WordPress in one click

You don't need to download anything or touch a database. From your HostFilya dashboard, our one-click installer sets up a fresh, secure WordPress site in under a minute.

  1. Log in to your dashboard and open Manage on your hosting plan.
  2. Click Install WordPress and choose the domain (or subdomain) you want it on.
  3. Pick a site title and create your admin username and a strong password.
  4. Hit Install — we configure the database, SSL and sensible defaults for you.
  5. When it finishes, click Log in to WordPress to reach your new /wp-admin dashboard.

That's it — your site is live and already running over HTTPS.

Managed auto-updates

Out-of-date software is the number-one cause of hacked WordPress sites, so we keep yours current automatically. Our managed updates apply WordPress core, theme and plugin security patches in the background, and we test them against a snapshot first so a bad update can't take your site down.

Tip: leave auto-updates on. If you ever need to hold a specific plugin back — say it has a custom tweak — you can pin its version from the dashboard and we'll skip it.

Choosing a theme & essential plugins

Your theme controls how the site looks; plugins add features. Start lean — every plugin you add is more code to load and maintain.

Picking a theme

Choose a lightweight, well-reviewed theme that's updated regularly. Block-based themes work beautifully with the built-in editor and tend to load fast. Avoid bloated "do-everything" themes if you only need a handful of their features.

The essentials

  • SEO — a single SEO plugin to manage titles, descriptions and sitemaps.
  • Caching — though on HostFilya server-side caching is already handled for you.
  • Forms — a contact form so visitors can reach you.
  • Backups — optional, since we back up daily anyway (more below).

Staging environments

A staging site is a private copy of your live site where you can try changes safely. On Business plans you can spin one up with a click, test a new theme, plugin or design, then push the changes live only when you're happy. Nothing your visitors see ever breaks while you experiment.

Speeding up WordPress

Most WordPress slowness comes down to three things, and we help with all of them:

  • Caching — our server-side cache serves pages without re-building them every visit.
  • CDN — your assets are delivered from edge locations close to each visitor, included free.
  • Images — compress images before uploading and use modern formats; this alone often halves page weight.

For a deeper dive, see our guide on ways to speed up WordPress.

Securing WordPress

A few simple habits keep the vast majority of attacks out:

  • Use a strong, unique admin password and avoid the username "admin".
  • Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) for your WordPress and HostFilya accounts.
  • Keep WordPress, themes and plugins updated — our managed updates do most of this for you.
  • Remove any themes or plugins you no longer use.

Our firewall and malware scanning run on every plan in the background — see Security & SSL for the full picture.

Automatic backups & one-click restore

We take an automated backup of your files and database every single day and keep copies safely off-site. If an update, edit or plugin ever causes trouble, you can roll the whole site back to a previous day with one click from your dashboard — no support ticket required. You can also download a backup any time to keep your own copy.

A simple maintenance checklist

Spend ten minutes a month and your site stays healthy:

  • Confirm WordPress, themes and plugins are up to date.
  • Check a recent backup exists and looks complete.
  • Review users and remove anyone who no longer needs access.
  • Click through key pages and forms to make sure everything works.
  • Delete unused plugins, themes, drafts and spam comments.
